How TO PLAY: The object of Lift Panic varies according to which game mode is being played. In Time Attack Mode the object is to get the highest possible score within the time limit. In Normal Mode, the goal is slightly more open ended. Players can either attempt to get to the highest level or achieve the highest score.
In normal mode, the player is tasked with operating a single elevator. This consists primarily of picking up waiting passengers, and then delivering them to their destination on the ground floor. Waiting passengers fall into three categories: Happy Passengers, Annoyed Passengers, and Angry Passengers. Both Happy and Annoyed Passengers are present at the start of each level, and additional passengers begin to line up quickly. The longer a Happy passenger is forced to wait, the more agitated he gets, eventually becoming an Annoyed Passenger, if he continues to wait he will become angry, and then he will simply give up and take the stairs, should this happen the game is over. In most cases up to three passengers may board the elevator simultaneously. However, certain special passengers may require the space of two or even three normal passengers. Occasionally, a VIP may appear on the ground floor, accompanied by two escorts. The VIP, while waiting, will declare his destination floor. VIPs always appear angry, and are typically very impatient, however, picking up and delivering VIPs is optional, and a failure in that regard will not result in a game over. Successful delivery of a VIP to his desired destination results in a bonus of an additional 50% to any scoring deliveries. Successful VIP deliveries can yield up to a 250% bonus, VIPs can still be delivered when the maximum is achieved, however they give no additional bonus. Conversely, a missed or incorrectly delivered VIP will reset the bonus gauge, and clear any existing bonus.
Time attack is played just like normal mode, except that rather than clearing levels, the goal is simply to achieve the highest score in the time limit.
