pdm thumb Zen Bridge Help

Goal:

The object of Zen Bridge is to 'bridge' the gap between edges. This is done by placing stones in a way that they touch each other and connect both edges. The green player attempts to connect the top and bottom edges, while the blue player attempts to connect the left and right edges. The game is quite simple, but on boards this large two skilled players can have a very interesting match. Due to the nature of the game the 1 player mode, which contains a computer controlled 'AI' is easy to defeat for most advanced players. This should be considered a training mode for these players while the real challenge is held within the Networked Mode. Note that in all game modes the green player goes first and in 1 Player mode the user is always green.

When Zen Bridge is launched the user is greeted with the menu screen:

menut

Here the user can choose between 5 options. 1 Player mode is simply the user versus computer. Hot Seat mode is two players playing the game on the same device, handing the device back and forth between moves. Network Play mode allows two players on the same Service Provider (ie, T-mobile, Fido, etc) to play against each other wirelessly. Note: Depending on your carrier and your data plan additional charges may apply. Help and Credits contain Zen Bridge information, such as how to play and controls. In Settings the user can specify whether they accept Network Play challenges.

network games

This could be used in instances where the user is in a GPRS roaming situation or in any situation where they'd prefer to not receive notification of challenges. Also note for example if User A is challenged by User B and User A has this option unchecked then User B will receive notification that User A is not accepting challenges.

Note the network timeout is 5 minutes, if after this specified time no user has placed a stone, the game will end.

1 Player and Hot Seat

1 Player mode allows the user to play against a computer intelligence.

Hot Seat allows two users to play against each other on the same device. After each turn simply had the device to your opponent and let them place a stone and repeat.

Network Play

The normal process of Network Play is:

User A and User B must both first "Allow Network Games" in the Settings screen. Their choice is saved, but the initial setting is to not allow network challenges.

User A selects Network Play on the main menu, a dialog appears prompting the user for the username of the person they wish to challenge. User A enters their username (the name before their device email address):

After selecting "Connect", User A's screen shows a connecting progress bar:

While User B is alerted of the challenge via this screen showing the challenger:

If User B is not in Zen Bridge when the challenge is received a Marquee notice will appear in the title bar of whatever area they are in and a Zen Bridge icon will remain until User B addresses the situation:

User B can now accept or reject the challenge, if rejected User A will be alerted:

failed

Otherwise the game will start as normal. The challenger, User A, will go second as Blue, while the recipient, User B, will be green and go first. User A's view after the initial move of User B:

From User B's perspective after their second turn:

Note the color of the font at the bottom specifies the color of the current player's turn. If User B leaves Zen Bridge for some reason and User A plays a stone, User B will see an alert in the title bar no matter where they are, along with an icon, displayed until the situation is addressed.

At anytime a player can disconnect if necessary via the Menu button:

disconnect

If User A disconnects, User B will receive this dialog:

disconnected

After a game is completed, each User will receive a dialog stating if they won or lost.
